What is Stellar M22

Stellar M22 by Lumenis is a multi-application platform built around intense pulsed light (IPL). IPL is not a single laser wavelength but a broad band of light, filtered to target pigment in sun spots or the blood in small visible vessels and redness.

Filters and settings are chosen for the problem and your skin type, which is what makes IPL precise despite being a broad light source.

It is one of the most widely used devices for photo-damage and redness. For melasma, which needs a gentler approach, we usually use laser toning instead.

Treatment Process

Where it is used

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Hands

During the visit

  1. Your skin is examined to confirm what the pigment or redness is.
  2. Eyes are protected and a cool gel is applied.
  3. Flashes of light are delivered across the area; each feels like a quick snap.
  4. A face treatment is usually short.

Afterwards

  1. Redness settles within hours to a day.
  2. Treated spots usually darken and flake off over about a week.
  3. Further sessions are spaced a few weeks apart if needed.

02

Before you decide

It may suit you if

  • You have sun spots or freckles
  • You have redness or small visible vessels
  • You want a more even tone
  • You can avoid tanning

It may not be the right treatment if

  • Your pigment is melasma
  • You have a fresh tan
  • You are pregnant
  • There is active infection or inflamed skin in the area

Darker skin types need careful settings or a different approach. We confirm what the pigment is before treating it.

03

What to expect

Timing. Spots usually fade within one to two weeks; redness improves over a series.

Degree. A clearer, more even tone; new sun damage can still appear without protection.

Duration. Long-lasting for treated spots if sun is controlled; maintenance helps.

Risks. Redness and darkening of spots are expected. Uncommonly, blistering or pigment changes can occur.

Results differ from person to person. Nothing on this page is a prediction of your own outcome, and it does not replace a consultation. See our Medical Disclaimer.

Not sure IPL is what you need?

That is what the consultation is for. We look at your skin and tell you which device we would use, which we would not — and whether the honest answer is a different treatment, or nothing for now.
