Ultherapy Prime

Focused ultrasound aimed at the layer a surgeon lifts — chosen by what the screen shows, not by a fixed line count.

What is Ultherapy Prime

Ultherapy is micro-focused ultrasound with visualization. Energy is focused at a set depth below the surface, raising the temperature at that point enough to contract collagen and start a healing response. The surface stays intact.

The word that matters is visualization. The handpiece also images the tissue, so the layer being treated is seen on screen before any energy is delivered. Depth is chosen from what is actually there in that face, not assumed from an average.

The deepest setting reaches the SMAS, the fibromuscular layer a surgeon tightens in a facelift. That is why Ultherapy is grouped with structure rather than with surface treatments.

It works over time, not the same day. Contraction is immediate but small. The visible change comes from collagen laid down over the following two to three months.

Ultherapy Prime vs Thermage FLX

Compare Treatment Guide

Both are non-surgical and both use heat, but they do different jobs. One addresses the line that has dropped. The other addresses skin that has lost density.

Ultherapy Prime

Energy

Micro-focused ultrasound, delivered to a point

Target

Deep support, including the SMAS layer

Best for

A jawline or brow that has descended; a face that reads tired rather than slack

Guidance

Real-time imaging of the layer before energy is delivered

Thermage FLX

Energy

Monopolar radiofrequency, spread through a volume

Target

Dermis and the fat layer beneath it

Best for

Skin that has thinned and lost firmness across an area

Guidance

Contact cooling and tip feedback; no imaging of the layer

In practice the two are often planned together rather than chosen against each other — structure first, density after. Which comes first, and whether both are needed at all, is decided after your face has been examined.

01

Treatment Process

Where it is used

  • Jawline
  • Lower face
  • Mid face
  • Brow
  • Under the chin
  • Neck

During the visit

  1. The face is examined and photographed, and the areas that have actually descended are marked.
  2. Ultrasound gel is applied and the handpiece images the tissue. Depth settings are chosen from what is seen.
  3. Energy is delivered line by line. You feel brief deep heat at each point. This is the part people find uncomfortable.
  4. Gel is removed. There is nothing to dress and no wound to cover.

Afterwards

  1. Redness and mild swelling are common for a few hours. Makeup can go on the same day.
  2. Tenderness to touch, and sometimes a dull ache on chewing, can last several days.
  3. Change builds over two to three months. It is reviewed at that point, not before.

02

Before you decide

It may suit you if

  • The jawline has softened
  • The brow sits lower than it did
  • You want structure without surgery
  • You can wait two to three months

It may not be the right treatment if

  • Laxity is advanced
  • You are pregnant
  • There is active infection or inflamed skin in the area
  • You need a visible change by a fixed date

Where tissue is heavy and has descended a long way, ultrasound will not do what a surgical lift does, and we will say so rather than sell you a course of it. Implants, recent filler or permanent material in the treatment area are discussed before anything is planned.

03

What to expect

Timing. A small immediate tightening, then a gradual change as collagen is laid down. Two to three months is the point at which the result is judged.

Degree. A tightening and a cleaner line, not a lift. Photographs taken before treatment are what the comparison is made against.

Duration. The treatment does not stop ageing. How long the change holds depends on age, skin quality and how much laxity there was to begin with.

Risks. Redness, swelling and tenderness are expected. Bruising and raised welts occur less often. Temporary numbness or weakness of a facial muscle is uncommon and resolves. It is discussed with you before you consent.

Results differ from person to person. Nothing on this page is a prediction of your own outcome, and it does not replace a consultation. See our Medical Disclaimer.

Ultherapy in Seoul: what visitors usually want to know

Ultherapy is usually a single session with no wound, which makes it easy to fit into a trip. A few things are worth knowing before you book.

Genuine Ultherapy or another HIFU device? Korea has several local focused-ultrasound devices, and some low prices advertised as “HIFU lifting” are not Ultherapy. Both can have a place, but they are not the same treatment. We use Ultherapy Prime and will tell you which device is being used before you start.

Prime and real-time imaging Ultherapy Prime shows the tissue layers on screen as it treats, so energy can be placed at the intended depth, including the deeper SMAS layer. That imaging is the main reason it is chosen over blind devices.

Shots are the unit Treatment is planned in shots (lines of energy) per area. Ask how many are planned and where, so you can compare like with like.

When you will see it There can be a small change early on, but the result is judged at two to three months, once new collagen has formed — usually after you are home. We take photographs before treatment to compare against.

Combining with Thermage Many visitors ask for both. They work at different depths and can complement each other, but the order and interval matter. We plan it with you rather than doing everything at once.

Flying and price Redness settles within hours and tenderness can last a few days; flying the next day is fine for most people. The cost depends on the area and the number of shots, so you get a clear quote after the consultation.

FAQ

Does it hurt?

There is brief deep heat at each point. Most people describe it as sharp but short. Tell us during the session if it is too much; settings are adjusted rather than endured.

How many sessions?

Usually one, then reassessment after the collagen response has run its course. There is no weekly course.

Is there downtime?

Not really. Redness settles within hours and there is no wound. Tenderness can last several days.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Often, but the order matters and the interval matters. Combining energy devices and injectables on the same face without a plan is how results get unpredictable.

Will I look like I have had something done?

The intended result is a cleaner line, not a changed face. If you want a visible change, this is probably not the treatment to ask for.

Is Ultherapy cheaper in Korea?

Often, yes, which is why many people plan it into a trip. The cost depends on the area and number of shots, so we quote after the consultation.

What is the Korean version of Ultherapy?

Korea makes several focused-ultrasound (HIFU) devices that work on a similar principle. They are not the same machine, and results and settings differ. Ask which device is being used.

Ultherapy Prime or regular Ultherapy?

Prime is the newer system with clearer real-time imaging and a faster treatment. The principle is the same; the imaging helps place energy at the right depth.

Is Ultherapy worth it?

For mild to moderate laxity, many people find the gradual tightening worthwhile. It is not a substitute for surgery when laxity is advanced, and we will say so.

How many shots will I need?

It depends on the areas and your skin. The doctor plans it at the consultation, and you will know the number before treatment.
